Overview

Storion is seeking an Engineering Technician to serve as a key technical resource for our corporate engineering team in Alpharetta, GA. Storion is a battery component manufacturer specializing in the production and assembly of vanadium electrolyte and stack-power assemblies that serve the flow battery industry in the US. We strive to drive flow battery adoption through cost-effective, readily available electrochemistry components required in large-scale flow batteries.
Reporting through the manufacturing engineering team, this position requires a versatile technician who can support the engineering team with hands-on fabrication, testing, pilot plant operations, and troubleshooting activities. This role will work closely with engineers to build prototypes, conduct laboratory tests, operate pilot-scale production equipment, maintain equipment, and support both research and production operations.

Responsibilities

Pilot Scale Production Plant Operations
  • Operate and monitor pilot-scale production equipment for vanadium electrolyte and stack-power assembly processes
  • Execute production runs following established procedures and process parameters
  • Monitor process conditions, record data, and make adjustments to maintain product quality and yield
  • Conduct in-process sampling and quality checks to ensure product specifications are met
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process issues during production runs in collaboration with engineers
  • Support scale-up activities and process development trials
Technical Support & Fabrication
  • Fabricate, assemble, and modify prototypes, fixtures, and test equipment to support engineering projects
  • Operate machine shop equipment, including mills, drill presses, band saws, and other fabrication tools
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications
  • Perform basic welding, soldering, and mechanical assembly tasks
  • Support engineers in conducting laboratory tests and experiments
  • Collect, record, and organize test data for engineering analysis
Equipment Maintenance & Calibration
  • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of laboratory, pilot plant, and shop equipment
  • Calibrate test equipment and instruments to maintain measurement accuracy
  • Maintain calibration records and equipment maintenance logs
  • Coordinate with vendors for specialized repairs and calibration services
Shop & Laboratory Management
  • Maintain general shop hygiene and cleanliness of work areas, tools, and equipment
  • Implement and maintain 5S principles in the shop, laboratory, and pilot plant spaces
  • Manage inventory of shop supplies, tooling, and consumables
  • Ensure proper storage and organization of materials, parts, and equipment
  • Order replacement parts, tools, and supplies as needed
  • Dispose of waste materials according to safety and environmental regulations
Safety & Documentation
  • Follow all safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment
  • Conduct routine safety inspections of equipment and work areas
  • Document work performed, including production runs, maintenance activities, fabrication tasks, and test results
  • Assist with creating and updating work instructions and technical procedures

 

Qualifications

  • An associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in a technical or manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency with machine shop tools and equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Valid driver’s license is a requirement, and the ability to operate forklifts and pallet jacks
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience operating pilot-scale or production-scale chemical processing equipment
  • Familiarity with batch processing, mixing, and material handling systems
  • Experience with CNC machining, milling, or turning
  • Familiarity with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar)
  • Experience in electrochemical systems, batteries, or chemical manufacturing
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems and instrumentation
  • Experience with data acquisition systems and sensors
  • Knowledge of 5S, lean manufacturing, or continuous improvement methodologies

Work Environment
  • You will work in office, laboratory, pilot plant, and shop environments. Battery components manufacturing and development employ chemicals, heat, and equipment, and as such, you will at times be exposed to fumes, noise, dirt, hazards, and chemicals, and in all cases will be provided with appropriate PPE.
  • You must be able to see, hear and speak; able to sit, stand for at least two hours at a time, sit, bend, crawl, squat, kneel and climb able to use both arms and hands to use a computer and peripherals and lift 40 pounds from floor level, able to work below ground level in confined spaces and on stationary or mobile elevated platforms, able to wear respirator and other personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, able to climb stairs.
